NSH, DAYO appeal for early completion of Trans Nagaland Expressway

Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): The Northern Sumi Hoho on Wednesday urged the government to transform the Trans Nagaland Expressway into a reality citing ‘untold hardships’ faced by Nagas living in border areas.

“The completion of the foothill road will not only boost our economy but it will also produce more young entrepreneurs, which will definitely contribute to our state economy and unemployment,” it stated in a press release.

It further acknowledged the Nagaland Foothills Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC) for their tireless efforts and dedication towards early completion of the "Dream Road project."

DAYO: The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) meanwhile appreciated the NFHRCC for inviting all the 11 tribal hohos and all MLAs representing the affected tribes, who traverse the foothills road, to a consultative meet on February 5.

In this regard, it appealed to all the honorable MLAs from the Ao community to attend the meeting and be a part of the decision making to realise the dream of completing the foothills road into reality before the arrival of monsoon this year.

While expecting a positive outcome from the proposed meeting, it cleared its stance that it expected, “nothing less than a completed motorable road before the onset of monsoon.”

Stating that it had been waiting since the mid 1970s hoping that the “corridors of power would consider the plight of the majority of Naga tribes affected by the incomplete road connectivity,” DAYO expressed hope that the MLAs would display statesmanship cutting across political party lines, for the peoples’ welfare. That, it said, would be “a trendsetter to the much needed equal developmental policy along with strong political will that Nagaland needs today.”
