Kohima, December 19 (MExN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) led by Member Secretary, N Longshithung Ezung, NJS and Project Coordinators, Advocate Temsu Walling and Advocate, Kezhosano Kikhi and staff visited the Old Age Home at Meriema, Kohima on December 17.
The team donated legal pamphlets and various basic essential items. The Member Secretary informed the home that legal services authority is a bridge to connect the weaker sector with various stakeholders and to reach the unreached sections of the society.
While an interaction was held with the Superintendent of the Old Age Home, it was learned that there were 24 elderly persons aged between 60-93 years at the home, informed a press release issued by Ketholeno Neihu, Public Relations Assistant, NSLSA.
The erstwhile nursing home was changed to Senior Citizens Home and is funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It is run by Good Samaritan Women Society (GSWS). “One of the grievances of the home was lack of health facilities. Also it was learnt that the residents were not receiving any pension benefits,” the release stated.
The vision of the home is to provide and promote quality geriatric care with secure environment, to support the old aged with dignity and encourage them to complete their life journey peacefully.
The NSLSA has carried out the drive in receipt of a voluntary donation in cash.
