Three persons were killed while 24 others suffered injury in a tragic NST bus accident this morning near Pherima about 35 km away from state capital, Kohima. Police source said that the Nagaland State Transport (NST) bus bearing registration number NL 11 1694 was heading towards Dimapur from Kohima carrying 39 passengers, when it fell into a deep gorge off the National Highway, at around 9:20 AM in the morning.
Sources said the driver Teisovi Angami from Kigwema village and a woman passenger Kaini Mao, 34 years were killed on the spot, while 58 year old Kazithuibo Zeliang, a deacon of the Liangmei Baptist Church, Kohima succumbed to injuries.
Three persons are stated to be in serious condition, sources said. Those with minor injuries were treated at the Medziphema Hospital and those with major injuries were taken to the Dimapur district hospital.
The accident is suspected to have been caused by mechanical failure, but the official report is still awaited.
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, P Paiwang Konyak today visited the injured of the Pherima bus accident at the hospitals and gave Rs. 10,000 each to the families of the injured and the deceased as “immediate assistance.” Paiwang expressed shock over the “sad news of the NST bus accident” in which “three valuable lives were lost.”
“I know it is an irreparable loss to the members of the family,” and “though words are not enough for comfort,” he said “I offer my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to those who lost their near and dear ones in the accident and wish speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.” The Parliamentary Secretary further assured to provide “any assistance” and support.
