NSUI Nagaland against unregulated transport fares

RTOs asked to publish revised rates

Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland on Wednesday took strong exception to the unregulated transport fares in the State, noting that it has taken a great toll on the common public especially the students’ community.

With majority of the common people using public transport for their day to day activities, the exorbitant transport fares charged by the drivers without even following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines has become a burden for the public, the NSUI stated in a press release on March 17.

The Union appealed the State government to immediately intervene and take necessary steps to address the issue.

It also appreciated Deputy Commissioners who have taken prompt action to revise the rates to pre-COVID-19 times and further requested the respective regional transport authorities to revise the rates of different transports and publish it for the convenience of the public.

The Union also appealed the district administration to provide helpline numbers for the students and public to report their grievances in case of flouting of rules by the drivers.
