NU, NABARD urged to support entrepreneurs

Kohima, April 9 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya commended the Nagaland University and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Nagaland Regional Office for taking up the challenge in creating entrepreneurship for economic upliftment in the field of agriculture during a review meeting held at Raj Bhavan Kohima on April 8.

Governor Acharya however called on the two institutions to support the entrepreneurs till they can support and stand on their own. He said that the goal of the educational institutions should not only be to impart knowledge but to also make the students stand on their feet. He hoped that skill development programmes have been introduced in all colleges in Nagaland. 

The Governor called for identification of the States natural resources, the need of the State and society and to introduce academic skill courses so as to make students entrepreneurs. He opined that it will strengthen the society economically. This should be the agenda of educational institutions he added.  

Vice Chancellor NU, Dr Pardeshi Lal and General Manager NABARD Dimapur, SK Dhumal highlighted the Governor on the initiatives taken by the two institutions. They stated that 62 students studying in the School of Agriculture Studies & Rural Development (SASRD), NU were sensitised on various avenues in agricultural field by AGM, NABARD HV Biswas. Interactions were also held with University staff on the NABARD’s various promotional and developmental initiative and urged for support and coordination for successful implementation in the State for creating self employment opportunities.

Governor Acharya, had earlier, called on NABARD to work with Universities in the State for all round development. The meeting was attended by   VC NU, Dr Pardeshi Lal, General Manager NABARD Dimapur, SK Dhumal and other officers of NABARD.
