Kohima, November 17 (MExN): The celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence under Kohima Forest Division, Kohima Range was organized under the National Afforestation Programme in the category of ‘celebration of the integral role of tribals in sustainable forest management’ on November 17.
In a press release the Media Cell, Kohima Range Office stated that the event was organized by T Khel Model Village Joint Forest Management Committee JFMC on the theme ‘Nursery demonstration-cum-workshop’, with Richard Belho, Vice chairman, T Khel Model Village JFMC as the resource person, stated a press release received here.
Delivering the keynote, Pezaneinuo Chielie, RFO i/c Kohima Range highlighted that the importance of establishing a good nursery is the basis for augmenting the rejuvenation of natural forests and ultimately for sustainable forest management and conservation of biodiversity in our tribal community. The demonstration emphasized on the various planting media, planting materials, methods of propagation, modern tools and inputs, environment friendly components of a nursery set up.
Participants included youths from T Khel Model Village, Seiyhama, Phenwenyu, Kandiniu and Terrogvunyu villages. All participants had hands-on experience during the event. The programme was chaired by Viketuo Belho, Chairman T Khel Model Village JFMC, while Nusayi, Deacon invoked the God’s Blessings.
