NU’s Engg students to launch “unlimited agitation”

Dimapur, August 10 (MExN): Students of School of Engineering & Technology and Management have decided to launch an “unlimited agitation” from August 11, Thursday. The SETAM Engineering Students’ Council said Nagaland University has failed to fulfill a number of demands to which the institution’s authorities gave assurances to address, during the students’ agitation early this year.   Some of the demands the students are making are hostel facilities, equipments and books for the students as well as revision of the fee structure. According to the students’ organization, the Dean of SASRD Dr. RC Naik came to SETAM representing the vice chancellor and assured the students of fulfillment of the demands by July, the current semester.
The director of the college development council Dr. Tongpang and deputy librarian Dr. Temjen also gave assurances the next day, a note from the students informed today.  
 “As per the assurance given by the NU authority that the practical equipments was to be delivered at SETAM by the first week of April 2011 and necessary setup was to be done by the end of July 2011 but not even a single equipment has arrived till date. Some of the departments like agri engg (sic) are yet to have their first year practical while the agri engg (sic) first batch have already reached their final year,” the students’ council stated.   
Currently, the students’ organization said, the students are paying more than Rs. 30, 000 annually “which include for the practical which is yet to be taken.” Comparing to other central universities, SETAM students are ‘paying huge amount with no facilities’ the students complained.
