The Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA), presently camping at Delhi to press for the acceptance of Nagaland University Vice Chancellor GD Sharma’s resignation, submitted a representation to President APJ Abdul Kalam’s office today as well as to the Comptroller Auditor General of India demanding thorough investigations by agencies under the Auditor’s purview such as the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) or Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) into mismanagement and misappropriation of funds as alleged by the teachers’ association.
“We submitted a representation to the Visitor and the Comptroller Auditor General of India today. We have demanded a thorough investigation by the CBI and Central Vigilance Commission into the mismanagement and fund misuse in the Nagaland University” Rosemary Dzuvichu, NUTA President informed from Delhi Wednesday. She said that since Nagaland University was a central university it was only appropriate that the CBI and the CVC which are collateral entities of the CAG should investigate into the entire matter.
To the query whether or not the NUTA would in the same vein approach the Government of Nagaland too as Dr Shurhozelie, Minister of higher Education had expressed willingness to depute an enquiry commission to investigate into the allegations against Professor GD Sharma, Rosemary Dzuvichu said “The people know all about the investigations into the NPSC scandal by the State Vigilance Commission and while we certainly welcome the offer, (we most preferably opt for) central investigation agencies since they are competent and NU is a central university.” However, no assurances have yet been given by either the CAG or the Visitor’s office since the representations were submitted only today.
The NUTA President also informed that the NUTA with other Delhi-based Naga student and lay organizations had called for a press conference Thursday where the national media would be present. Additional sources informed that the agitating teachers could not meet the President personally but submitted the representation to an official in the First Citizen’s office.
Meanwhile on the home front, NU officials led by its Registrar today met members of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) asking the latter to allow the resumption of work in the university. However, the NSF refused the request and further said the situation could turn from bad to worse. All offices of the Nagaland University were locked today and agitating members of the Post Graduate Students Union (PGSU) stopped NU officials from going to work.
Entering its second week and intensifying the agitation against the Vice-Chancellor Professor GD Sharma more than 700-strong Post Graduate students gathered in front of the NU and burned the effigy of the VC towards as a token of pressure on the concerned authority to accept the resignation tendered by the Vice Chancellor. Thonselo Magh, President, PGSU NUCK, informed late night.
Also, the PGSU of the three campuses have decided to submit a representation to the Chief Rector of the Nagaland University for which a procession is being organized scheduled to be held on March 9 from the Nagaland University office to Raj Bhavan. All the Post Graduate students were requested to reach the NU office latest by 9AM and be a part of the procession without fail. It was warned that postgraduate students who fail to co-operate ‘this common war against a tyrant’ would face action.
