
KIPHIRE, August 25 (MExN): The State National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) carried out a three-day monitoring and supervision exercise in Kiphire district from August 19 to 21, covering several health facilities and institutions.
The visits were conducted at Longmatra Health & Wellness Centre (H&WC), Phuvkiu H&WC, Pungro village Sub-Centre, Pungro Community Health Centre (CHC), Sitimi Primary Health Centre (PHC), Seyochung village H&WC, Seyochung CHC, District Hospital Laboratory, and the District Vector Borne Office.
The activities were headed by Dr. Tinurenla, Deputy Director NVBDCP, along with Kikolul Khieya, Assistant Director UVBDS, Imsubenla, State PH & Training Consultant, and Atuono Rupreo, Entomology Consultant. The team also included one laboratory technician and two insect collectors.
A review meeting was held at the Chief Medical Officer’s office, initiated by Dr. Anichari, Deputy Director. The meeting discussed findings and progress based on the field visits, and also assessed the performance of surveillance workers and the Malaria Technical Supervisor. The overall performance of the NVBDCP programme in the district was reviewed.
During the meeting, the staff were urged to “work sincerely and diligently and to be in their posting place and to ensure that all logistics and anti-malarial drugs are available in all the health Units at all times.” It was also stressed that “all migrant population also not neglecting the International border areas for screening of all fever cases on Malaria test.”
The public was reminded to observe “one dry day in a week” by ensuring that water collected in containers such as flower pot bases, empty vessels, coolers, tyres, and buckets is emptied out into a dry area. “Dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water and the eggs will hatch in a week,” the advisory stated.
As part of the visit, the entomological team conducted vector surveillance in the district, where the vector density for Malaria, Dengue, and Japanese Encephalitis was found to be present. A sentinel surveillance site hospital for Dengue has also been set up in the district, where confirmatory testing for the disease is available.
The findings were shared with the CMO, Kiphire, and necessary actions to be taken by the administration in collaboration with the department were discussed.
