NWU & RLP appeals to ensure safety of children

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): The Naga women’s Union (NWU) and Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) in a press release jointly issued by the presidents of the unions denounced the kidnapping of two minor school girls, Alice Kamei and Sanahanbi Devi from their boarding school, Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam Wabagai, Thoubal district by claimed RLP/PLA.

The kidnappers who took advantage of the vulnerable gender and minority group of people for their vested interest in contravention of all national and international humanitarian laws should be condemned by one and all, said the press release.

NWU and RLP also expressed dismay for the delay in rescue of the abducted girls by the Home Department of Manipur. It also accused that the Manipur Social Welfare Department, Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Manipur Commission for Women remained mute spectators and accused the school of being irresponsible.

NWU and RLP in the press release demanded from the government to rescue the two kidnapped minor girls and assist adequate medical, social, mental rehabilitation and repatriation at the earliest and also find measures to ensure safety of women and child in the society. It also asked the government to institute independent and impartial judicial enquiry regarding the kidnapping of the two minor girls. The Minister, Social Welfare, Commissioner, Director Social Welfare, and Deputy General of Police Government of Manipur are the three key responsible personnel who have least concern for the state children at Jaipur leaving at the hand of the Rajasthan government, the unions alleged.

Financial assistance and support services to victims of rape have not been extended to rape survival of Khoupum even after 6 months, the press note said while asking the State Social Welfare Department to expedite action at the earliest.

NWU and RLP in the note demanded immediate repatriation of the children from Jaipur and proper comprehensive rehabilitation and social re-integration of the victims of trafficking in person and survival of rape. Sufficient number of institutional care centers, separately both for boys and girls should be set up especially to the hill districts on priority basis in time bound manner so as the victims are re-integrated in their own community, the statement said.
