DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20 (MExN): The NSCN (K) led by Nyemlang Konyak issued a press release today stating that when the NSCN/GPRN was formed in 1980-81, the Nagaland defence armed forces was officially called the “People’s Army of Nagaland (PAN).”
A press release from Nikato Pilot Sumi, MIP In-Charge of the group stated that “Article 1 of military R&R of NSCN/GPRN clearly states the military set up as People’s Army of Nagaland. From inception, the military cadres of NSCN/GPRN have been continually governed as per the rules and regulations of the PAN.”
The press release stated that it is a “misnomer and incorrect to officially use the term ‘Naga Army.” “The colloquial use of Naga Army has somehow erroneously slipped into formal and official usage. The nonchalant and ubiquitous usage of the term Naga Army in common phrase has somehow reared into the force and distorted the original and official term of the People’s Army of Nagaland (PAN).”
“For reasons best known to themselves, past leaders after forming and naming Nagaland defense force as PAN decided not to correct the improper usage of the name which stands without amendment till date,” it said.
Therefore, it informed that the collective leadership of the NSCN/GPRN led by Nyemlang Konyak has duly decided to use People’s Army of Nagaland (PAN) in reference to the military set up in all official communiqué.
