Kohima, August 10 (MExN): Advisor for School Education, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, along with Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, B Henok Buchem, CEO, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Alemyapang Longchar, and other officials, visited and inspected waste management facilities at Lerie and Dzürüzou, Kohima, on August 10.
The visit was undertaken by the District Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, as part of its scheduled inspection of waste management facilities in Kohima, stated a DIPR report.
The team first visited the Kohima Waste Management Plant at Lerie, where they inspected the existing facilities and took stock of the waste management arrangements. The team thereafter proceeded to the landfill site at Dzürüzou, where the officials inspected the site and reviewed the existing waste disposal arrangements.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the existing waste management facilities and ensuring effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. It also provided an opportunity for the officials to assess the challenges and requirements for efficient waste processing, management and scientific disposal in Kohima.
The inspection assumes significance as Kohima continues to strengthen its municipal solid waste management system. Official project documents indicate that Kohima generates around 80–90 tonnes of municipal waste per day, underscoring the need for efficient collection, segregation, processing and scientific disposal of waste.
