Kohima, July 30 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Krodi Rhetso, NPS, along with officials from the District Administration, PWD (R&B), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO), Phesama Village Council and other stakeholders, inspected the Phesama Sinking Zone (Chainage Km 191+840 to Km 192+100) along the Kohima–Mao section of National Highway-2 on July 30.
During the inspection, the officials reviewed the prevailing road condition and discussed immediate measures to ensure the safety of commuters while maintaining the movement of traffic, a DIPR report stated.
It was decided that machinery for continuous clearance of debris will be stationed at the affected stretch to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow. Two lighting units and traffic warning placards will be installed at both ends of the sinking zone to monitor possible rockfalls and enhance the safety of travellers.
Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem informed that debris clearance operations will continue regularly, while a full-day clearance drive will be undertaken on Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. He also encouraged commuters, particularly those travelling at night, to use the alternative route via Kisama.
To ensure smooth traffic management, traffic police personnel will be deployed at the site to regulate the movement of vehicles.
The DC also urged officials stationed at the affected stretch to remain in constant communication with the District Administration and the Police. They were encouraged to take timely decisions, including temporary road closure whenever necessary, in the interest of public safety.
