Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): The Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) has decided to launch agitations in protest of the Nagaland government’s alleged failure to frame the modalities for oil exploration in the Changpang oil fields. The first-phase agitation called “Mission Puncture NL-10” is in the form of ban on movement of government vehicles in Wokha district, the KSU informed in a note today.
The KSU said it is now hard pressed to initiate its first phase of agitation, “Mission puncture NL-10,” from May 9 onwards. “Not even a single State government vehicle will be allowed to ply in the entire Wokha district. If any government official fails to comply to the stand of the union shall be doing at their own risk. Further, paramilitary forces, police, medical department and fire brigade are exempted.”
The KSU convened a joint meeting of the Kyong Hoho, range/circle students’ unions and Changpang Land Owners’ Union on May 7 at 1:00pm at the union office. The union said the organizations discussed the delay of the government in framing the modalities ‘for Changpang oil fields’ by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas. The delay is in spite of submitting an ultimatum to the Cabinet Sub-Committee, the KSU complained in its note.
‘The union in good faith extended another 45 days to the Cabinet Sub-Committee starting from 21st mar’2012 which expired on 5th May 2012 for framing of modalities for Changpang oil field but it is unfortunate to learn that the Cabinet Sub-Committee failed to frame the modalities,’ the organization lamented.
The union appeals to the Kyong Hoho, Kyong Eloe Hoho, all the range, circle, area students’ union, units and the public in general to extend their fullest cooperation.
