Mokokchung, May 17 (MExN): The office of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) on Wednesday has demanded the immediate revocation of a recent notification issued by the H&TE Department, Nagaland attaching some teachers from Fazl Ali College (FAC) and Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MITE) to other institutions.
In a representation to the Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education and Technical (H&TE) Department, the OKM expressed deep concern over the “sending away of teachers on attachment basis” and stated that it would create acute shortage of workforce in the affected colleges, and be detrimental to the welfare of the students.
Accordingly, in the interest of the people and the students' community, the OKM requested the department for immediate revocation of the notification.
“We are well aware that the above mentioned colleges are the premier government colleges in the district and majority of the students in the district avail their education in the two institutions,” added the representation appended by the OKM President, Limatongzuk Jamir and General Secretary, Sungkumjang Kichu.
These colleges are doing commendable services in imparting quality education and by transferring out teachers would definitely disturb the well set higher education ecosystem in the district, it contended.
The OKM, therefore, cannot just be a mere spectator when the educational system in the district is affected resulting in a negative impact upon the students, it said.
Stating that its prime objective is to look after the welfare of the students, the OKM further asserted that it would “leave no stone unturned” in its demand to revoke the transfer order of the teachers.
The Conference further stated that its demand is not meet, it would be “compelled to take our own course of actions.”
As per the H&TE notification signed May 9, a total of 12 assistants professors in various subjects were attached to New Model College, Wakching under Mon district and New Model College, Mongkolemba under Mokokchung district.
Out of these, there were five assistants professors from FAC and two from MITE.
