One killed in Jalukielo village

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): One person was shot dead in Jalukielo village in Peren district this morning at around 7 AM by unidentified gunmen. The victim has been identified as one Lohrii Pou of Jalukielo village, about 65 years of age, and a widower.
According to a leader of a Zeliangrong community organization, Pou was shot five times, in what is said to be an ambush, while he was on way to work in his field. President of the Zeliangrong Baudi of Nagaland K Akhang informed this daily in the night that he has visited the spot of the killing where Peren district’s administrative and police officials as well as civil organizations were present.
The Zeliangrong leader said the victim was a widower, a farmer and is survived by three sons. “About the motive (of the killing), we do not know; but he was ambushed,” Akhang said. He cited general reports that the victims were waylaid by four to five persons and shot five times as shells indicated. Contact with officials of the administration and the district’s police could not be made. The Zeliangrong Baudi has denounced the killing.
The Tenyimi Union of Jalukie, Peren, has also expressed grief and shock at the killing of the farmer. “TUJ strongly condemn the barbaric act of the miscreant(s) and further stated that Jalukielo village is a government recognized village with clear land demarcation of its boundary. So, they are not the land encroachers or land mongers in any way,” stated a note of condemnation issued by the union today. The note was appended by secretary of the organization, John Kape.
The Tenyimi Union of Jalukie has demanded that the government of Nagaland capture the criminals at the earliest and award them befitting punishment.
Also, the union demanded ex-gratia to the next of kin of the victim, “like it has given ex- gratia to the unrecognized Naga United village leaders.” The union has expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and prays to God to grant the departed soul peace.
