Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio today said that the ‘church’ is the only platform that can bring unity of the Naga people. Expressing concern at the ‘disunity between the Nagas, Rio said only the ‘Christian platform’ can keep the people united. Rio was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Nagaland Christian Revival Church here this morning at Gariphema village in Kohima. The celebration will go on till January 10.
The chief minister called upon ‘Christians’ to come together and develop a spirit of oneness and unite as a family regardless of denominations. They must work united for unity and peaceful co-existence as “we might be from different denomination but we all worship one God.” Rio expressed confidence in the church to bring about unity and peace among the Nagas.
Also lauding the contribution of the ‘church’ on many fronts, the chief minister urged all to join hands and continue to focus on the welfare and uplift of the Naga society. Before the advent of Christianity in Nagaland, Rio said, the Nagas were a minority, had no formal education, no leaders and no one to control them but the arrival of Christianity brought about drastic changes in their lives. He cited an instance that after the arrival of Christianity, the literacy rate of the state now stands at 81%, which is above the national figures. This is ‘good development’, he said. Earlier, Rio inaugurated the Trinitarian Spot at Gariphema village.
