KMC declares Kohima Open Defecation Free
Dimapur, February 4 (MExN): Answering nature’s call in the open in Kohima will now invite penalty ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 2000.
According to a notice issued by the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on February 5, anyone found defecating or urinating in the open in the State capital will be fined Rs 500 for the first offense.
For second and third time offenders, the penalty will be Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
KMC Administrator Zakiekhotuo Kiso notified that Kohima will be declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF+) and as such, anyone found defecating or urinating in the open will be penalized as informed, with effect from February 2021.
ODF is short for Open Defecation Free and it stands for the termination of faecal oral transmission defined by no visible faeces found in the environment/village and every household as well as public/community institutions using safe technology option for disposal of faeces.
Earlier on February 4, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) also announced a penalty of Rs 200 on those found defecating in the open in its jurisdiction.
