Opposition Cong prods Governor to act on anti-national crimes, NPF govt

DIMAPUR, JULY 7 (MExN): The cases of missing weapons from the police armory as unearthed and reported for four consecutive times is a matter of grave internal security concern of not only the State but the country, stated a press note issued by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC). Using this particular case, the Opposition Congress has issued a stern note to the Governor to act.

Stating that the Constitution of India was very clear on the role of the Governor in this matter, the NPCC pointed out that in his capacity as the constitutional head of the State, the Governor has the duty to see that a responsible government functions in his State. “He is empowered to override the decision of the Chief Minister and his council of Ministers in matters relating to maintenance of law and order, internal security and interests of the country”, the NPCC stated.

Mentioning that the Governor of Nagaland was a distinguished former police officer who had held different positions in internal security related matters, the NPCC stated that the implications of the recent anti-national crimes needs no further elaboration. “The people of Nagaland are not demanding a favor from the Governor. We are only demanding that he should go by the provisions and merit of the constitution as deemed fit”.

Pointing out that the DAN government had acted irresponsibly by compromising with the country’s security and stability, the NPCC stated that “going by the past experiences, the people of Nagaland are disappointed” and that “this time round, we hope to see some action”. “What more prima facie evidences are needed to nail the DAN government?” the NPCC stated obviously trying to get the attention of the Governor.

The NPCC cautioned that “should the voices of the people are continuously ignored; the people would have no choice than to take to the streets”.

Stating that the State Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen has lost all moral rights to continue and even without been demanded, the Chief Minister was expected to sack him. “However, the DAN government being as irresponsible as it is without a sense of morality, nothing much can be expected from either the Home Minister or the Chief Minister”.

The Opposition Congress has however noted the “efforts of the incumbent DGP in ordering stock verification of arms and ammunitions in various centres” and termed this as “commendable”. The NPCC also stated that the case of missing weapons “nakedly exposed the past lapses” and that “the missing weapons had found theirs way to the wrong hands had exposed the tacit nexus between the interested parties”.

The present episodes are the direct bearings of the NPF-led DAN government’s equi-closeness policy, the NPCC further stated pointing out that the “incidences proved beyond doubt that the systematic clandestine operations carried out by vested interests have been the cause of internal disturbances witnessed in the State in the recent past”. “It is not only a national shame but poses a serious threat to the stability of the country”.
