Org. decries denial of MBBS seat to candidate

Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Kiyekhu Village Welfare Society today condemned the denial of an MBBS seat to one candidate from the Village who secured ninth position in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), 2007.

A press statement received here from the DKVWS President, Khehoto Jimo and General Secretary Vihepu Chishi, said that the candidate, M Tova Chishi, son of Dr Semahoto Chishi alias Dr R Mahapatra (Redt Joint Director of Medical Services, Nagaland) of Kiyekhu village, passed out the 2007 JEE in the merit list in ninth position, besides securing the highest mark in biology subject.  However, the release stated that the candidate was denied a slot in the final selection list for the MBBS seat. In this regard, the DKVWS condemned the denial of the seat and asked for an immediate review of the case.

“The society highly condemns persons involved in denial of his (M Tova Chishi) legitimate claim to an MBBS seat and gives a note of caution to review the case immediately,” said the release.

The DKVWS said that the career of a promising student have been destroyed which cannot be tolerated by the villagers. “These wolves in the cover of sheep (the selection board) have assassinated the career of a promising student of our village and we will not tolerate it and remain silent spectators of it,” said the Welfare Society,

In this regard, the Welfare Society said that Dr R Mahapatra, presently known as Dr Semahoto Chishi is adopted by Tohzu of Kiyekhu village and is accepted by the Kiyekhu Village Council and added that for all practical purposes, Dr Semahoto is a Sumi Naga.

The DKVWS further said that head GB of Chekiye village in Dimapur has made Dr Semahoto Chishi alias Dr R Mahapatra as a permanent resident of Chekiye village in Dimapur. The Society said that as per Sumi customary law and tradition, and also as per Naga customary practices, Dr R Mahapatra has become a Sumi Naga, and that his son, M Tova Chishi, being born in Nagaland and that his mother, Aohili, is the daughter of G Vihokhe from Kiyekhu village. Clearly affirming that Semahoto Chishi alias Dr R Mahapatra and his son, M Tova Chishi is bonafide Nagas.

“Then what authority had the selection Board (which specially sat once for M Tova Chishi) not consider his case, in spite of him being a Sumi Naga?” asked the DKVWS, in this regard. “With malafide intention and evil motive, nobody will be allowed to function and carry out the scared duty bestowed upon them,” said the DKVWS.

The DKVWS said that they have brought the issue to the notice of the chief minister as well as the Governor of Nagaland to deliver justice. The DKVWS appealed the concerned authorities to take the final verdict, since Nagaland has been propagated to be land for Christ.

The Dimapur Kiyekhu Village Welfare Society, at the same time congratulated M Tova Chishi on behalf of Kiyekhu villagers for his outstanding academic achievements, by securing the 9th position in the MBBS category in the recently held 2007 JEE.
