Org demands probe into Changpang oil theft

Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): The Kyong Hoho has demanded an inquiry from the State government into the recent case of theft of crude oil in Changpang village, near Wokha, bordering Assam. The Kyong organization issued a press release today saying the owner of the oil tanker in which crude oil was being transported after the theft and had met with an accident subsequently, has been traced to Meerut.

“It is very disheartening to learn that organised criminals are smuggling out crude oil from the Changpang oil field. The Kyong Hoho vehemently condemns such day light robbery of national treasure,” the organization stated. When efforts are on to ‘work out appropriate rules and modalities for the benefit of the common people,” the note said, “illegal activities done by vested interested people demand outright condemnation from one and all.”

After the closure of ONGC’s activities in 1994 in Wokha district, the Kyong Hoho said, the organization has been trying to “find out acceptable and beneficial modalities with the govt. of Nagaland for the resumption of crude oil exploration.”

Quoting the DTO office of Wokha, the ‘hoho’ said the vehicle involved in the said accident while smuggling out crude oil bore the registration number NL-05 D 5954 and belongs to one Rajendar Singh of Meerut.

The Kyong Hoho has urged the government of Nagaland to immediately constitute a special investigation team to delve into the matter at the earliest.
