Organizations condemn attack on AR

Appeal NNPGs to restrain from any kind of violence

Kiphire, June 30 (MExN): The United Sangtam Likhum Pümji (USLP), Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC), and Eastern Sub-Sumi Hoho (ESSH) have condemned the attack on Assam Rifles troopers on June 28 around 1:15 pm at Tükudeko Nallah, 6 kilometers away from Ngoromih in Kiphire district.  

One Assam Rifles jawan was injured in the attack, according to a joint statement from the three organizations, which appealed to all the Naga National Political Groups to restrain from any type of violence.  

“The recent attack has shaken the foundation of hard earned peace in its jurisdiction. Violence cannot be the policy of today's generation, where every citizen yearns for peace,” read the statement from ESSH president, Vikato, YTC executive chairman, Shelimthong, and USLP vice president, K. Tsilise Sangtam.  

Asserting that they will not tolerate threats, intimidation and violence in its jurisdiction, the three tribal hohos called upon the faction concerned to come to the negotiation table to resolve any interest or issues.  

The statement noted that after many decades of conflict and bloodshed peace has become a reality in Eastern soil and Nagas in general. “This cannot be underestimated by any faction.”  

The remarkable declaration of Eastern Nagaland as Peace Zone by ENPO on December 18, 2007, it added, “cannot be compromised at any cost when peace has become the indispensable part of the Naga society.”   Therefore, the faction concerned was appealed to honour and respect the same to bring permanent peace for progress.  

Pochury Hoho urges faction to come to negotiating table   In a separate statement, Pochury Hoho also expressed “deep concern and anguish” at the attack on the AR. The Hoho condemned “such act of violence and bloodshed in our land when Nagas in general are yearning for peaceful co-existence.” Therefore, through its president, Chulekhu it appealed to the responsible factions to shun violence and come to the negotiating table to resolve the long protracted Indo-Naga issue. Further, it wished the injured speedy recovery.
