Orientation prog for 'Out of School Children'

Kohima, June 2 (MExN): A one day orientation programme for Education Volunteers (EVs) for Out of School Children (OoSC) was held on May 31 last at SCERT Conference Hall, Kohima.

Organized by District Mission Authority (DMA), SSA Kohima and State Council Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Nagaland, this programme was supported by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.

Altogether, 56 EVs attended the programme.

The resource persons included Thungchibemo Lotha, reader SCERT Nagaland; Pusetso Tunyi, coordinator & nodal officer OoSC and Theresa, project assistant DMA Kohima. Over 400 children between the age group of 6 to 14 years have been identified as OoSC under Kohima. These children are accounted as drop-out and never enrolled students due to poor family background, domestic worker, engaged in building construction site, garage, workshop, tea stall etc.

To deal with this, special teachers called Education Volunteer (EVs) have been placed to teach the children for a period of three months and mainstream them into regular schooling.

EVs will work to ensure that every child has access to quality education. The special class will begin from June 4 till August, according to Thonsenlo Assistant District Coordinator, DMA, Kohima. Earlier, the programme was led by Thonsenlo, while vote of thanks was proposed by Ruokuoneinuo, project assistant DMA Kohima.
