WOKHA, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): An orientation training on leprosy for health workers was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office, Wokha on September 5.
The training was organised by the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) Wokha unit with Micheal Murry, Senior Health Educator, NLEP Wokha and Mhonthung Tsanglao, Paramedical Worker, NLEP Wokha as resource persons.
Addressing the participants, Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung, CMO Wokha, said leprosy is caused by the bacteria mycobacterium leprae and is curable. He informed that free treatment for leprosy patients is available at government health facilities and called for concerted efforts from health workers to eliminate the disease from the community.
The resource persons spoke on the signs and symptoms of leprosy, diagnosis and treatment, multi-drug therapy, stigma associated with the disease, the strategic plan and roadmap 2027, and the goal of achieving zero leprosy.
Altogether, 78 Community Health Officers, ANMs and ASHAs from the district attended the training.
