The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nagaland Police constituted to investigate the Oting killing incident in Mon district on December 4 has requested any person having any information connected with the unfortunate incident to contact and share the same with the SIT.
Any person having photos, videos, suspicious activities from primary source or any other information connected with the incident may kindly share it in the interest of police investigation, stated a public notice issued by Sandeep M Tamgadge, Additional Director General for Law and Order, Nagaland Police.
The information must be in original not forwarded or secondary source, it said.
The information may be shared via phone call or WhatsApp message to +91 6009803048 or email to otingsit@gmail.com, the notice informed.
The identity of the informant will be kept confidential on request and the original recorded audio/video/document would be collected from the source after following due legal procedures, it added.
The five-member SIT, constituted by the Government of Nagaland, has been tasked to “immediately take over the case and visit the scene of crime and collect the evidence,” and completed the “investigation within one month from the date of registration.”
The State Government in an order issued on December 5 informed that SIT comprised of f IGP (R), CIO Limsunep Jamir; DIG (CID) Roopa M; SP (Crime) Manoj Kumar; SP Kilang Walling; and Deputy Commandant, 15 NAP IR Relo Aye.
The SIT may co-opt any other members in the Police Department as deemed fit, and will conduct the investigation under overall supervision of ADGP (Law and Order) Sandeep M Tamgadge, the order stated.
The order issued by Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam issued further informed that investigation has been transferred to the State Crime Police Station (SCPS) to facilitate free and fair investigation of the case, and looking at the complexity of the case which may involve investigation at multiple jurisdictions.
Accordingly, the case has been registered as State Crime Police Station Case No 07/2021.
The Oting incident occurred on December 4 after an apparent botched up operation by 21 para-commandos of Indian Army, and later acknowledged as “a case of mistaken identity,” by the Union Home Minister in the Parliament.
A total of 13 civilians died and many were injured during the firing by security forces in Oting, while another civilian was killed and many more injured in the chain of events thereafter in Mon Town on December 5.
A statement from the PRO Defence also informed that “security forces have suffered severe injuries in the incident including one soldier who succumbed to the injuries.”
