Konyak CSOs public rally Dec16; demands site for monolith

Mon, December 12 (MExN): The Konyak community will be culminating the “Week of Deep Mourning” by organising Candle Light Vigil across Mon District on December 13.

The Konyak civil societies (CSOs) will be organising the vigil in collaboration with KBBB (Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum) in memory of the innocent lives lost on December 4 and December 5 in Oting and Mon, stated a press release from Konyak Union, issued on behalf of all Konyak CSOs, adding, “They were mercilessly massacred by the Indian Armed Forces.”

Meanwhile, it further informed that a mass public rally will be held on December 16, during which the reminder of the “Memorandum will be submitted to the Govt. of India through the Govt. of Nagaland.”

Konyak civil societies including KSU subordinates, KU Branch and KNSK branch are informed to comply with the order, the release said.

It further also clarified that any kind of ex-gratia or compensation will not be accepted until justice is delivered to all victims including the survivors and family members.

In addition, the Konyaks also demanded the Administration to allocate a site without any delay, so as to erect a monolith in honour and respect of the victims.

“This site will be used as ‘Genocide Park’ in order to mark the Day of 14 innocent lives who were brutally massacred on 4th & 5th Dec. 2021; the same day has already being marked in the Konyaks’ history as the ‘Black Sunday’,” it added.

It further reiterated that if the demand for allocation of site is not met at the earliest, the Konyaks will be compelled to take extreme course of action.

The Konyaks CSOs further demanded the security forces to “return the hard earned money; including their bikes and other belongings they have taken from the victims they have killed.”

Regarding the ceasefire being signed with different Naga Political Groups,  the Konyak CSOs further clarified that the Yung Ang-led NSCN (K) “does not have any base camps nor does they have any operating offices in the district of Mon.”

“The Konyaks, therefore questions the Indian army, as to whose intelligent source/s were they operating?, it added.

In the release, the Konyak CSOs further stated that it will not remain silent after the ending of the mourning week, but would take “more extreme course of actions if the concerned authorities, including the Government of Nagaland and Government of India fail to deliver justice within the stipulated time as demanded in the Charter of Demands.”

It further urged the SIT (Special Investigation Team) to update the ongoing report to the Konyak CSOs and to expedite the process at the earliest.
