The five day long North East National Service Scheme (NSS) Festival 2026 concluded under the theme “Viksit Bharat” at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, near Kohima on July 31. More than 300 NSS volunteer from eight north eastern states of India joined the festival.
Addressing the valedictory program as the special guest, Roko Angami, OSD (Sports), Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, maintained that “North East Region is a crown Jewel of India, rich not only in bio-diversity and cultural but in immense human potential.”
The concept of Viksit Bharat encapsulates the vision of a modernized and empowered India, he said adding that the vision looks towards building a developed nation by the year 2047.
He urged upon the NSS volunteers to embrace a sense of purpose and set clear goals, affirming that Viksit Bharat is fundamentally about empowering youths to shape the country's future.
“Let us all stand tall, work hard and serve selflessly to transform our dynamic Northeast with shared knowledge, build lifelong bonds and sharpen our leadership skills and march together and build a glorious, self reliant and developed Bharat,” he said.
Roko, is also former international football player, stressed on the need to put a collective efforts to build a developed Nation.
“You are the architects of tomorrow's India! Your knowledge, discipline, creativity and integrity will determine the future of our country,” he told the NSS volunteers.
He also called upon the gathering to respect the cultural heritage, protect the environment and use technology for the welfare of the society.
‘Strengthen the bonds of friendship’
Roko maintained that the North East NSS Festival act as a bridge, adding that it breaks down invisible barriers of distance and dialect, uniting people under one tricolor vision.
“As responsible citizens, let us pledge to uphold honesty, respect diversity, maintain cleanliness, care for public property and contribute to our communities,” he said.
Reminding the gathering that the dream of a Viksit Bharat is not merely a vision, he said “It is a shared responsibility together.”
With unity, hard work, innovation and patriotism, we can build our India that is prosperous, inclusive and respected across the world, Roko said.
Further, he called upon the NSS volunteers to renew its pledge to lead change and strengthen the bonds of friendship and carry forward the message of "Unity in Diversity."
"Service gives purpose to our strengths, unity gives power to our diversity, and youth gives hope to our future,” he said.
In folk dance competition, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have been declared as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Assam bagged the 1st position in Power Point Presentation while Tripura and Sikkim stood 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
In Extempore speech, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
Nagaland bagged the 1st position in folk song competition while Meghalaya and Manipur were the joint holder of 2nd position. Assam stood 3rd position.
Roko Angami alongwith D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, NSS, North Eastern Region and Ruokuovituo Zatsu, State NSS Officer, Nagaland gave away prizes to the winners.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Langphoang while Likumcha Yim, PO NSS, Kohima Science College Jotsoma invoked God’s blessings.
Mizoram team performed cultural dance.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Nüveta Khüsoh, PO NSS Kohima Science College, Jotsoma.
Mentionably, the festival which started on July 27, was organized by State NSS Cell Nagaland and hosted by Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma in collaboration with Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
