‘The Pad Project’ launched at Unity Village Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 10 (MExN): ‘The Pad Project’ was launched in unity village, Dimapur, Nagaland in collaboration with The Eco Hub Small Industries set up an oxo-biodegradable sanitary pad manufacturing unit, a one of its kind in the state of Nagaland with the Skills and Empowerment Foundation at Unity village, Dimapur on January 10.
The project will aim at providing menstrual health awareness and education to women and adolescent girls in five villages namely unity village, Sovima, Diphupar B, Chümoukidema and Model village in the first phase.
The unit will provide rural women employment opportunities through pad production. The pads would be branded as Ladycare and will be available at a much reasonable price compared to the other multinational brands available in the market, informed a press release from Nelson Deb, a social entrepreneur and founder of The Eco Club, Assam.
“We will also try to make our pads available at schools, colleges, offices, hostels and hospitals through vending machines and work on menstrual waste management by providing incinerators that operate without electricity,” the press release added.
The Pad Project is a not for profit organisation which was set up by the Academy Award winners for best Documentary Short – ‘Period, the end of sentence’ in Los Angeles.
The launch was attended by health professionals, church members, social workers and community members from the mentioned five villages.
