PAMA, Kizari Village Council condemn alleged rape attempt

Phek, October 5 (MExN): The Phek Area Mothers’ Association (PAMA) has expressed its deepest outrage and condemnation over a recent incident of “attempted rape and criminal intimidation involving threats” to the victim’s life, allegedly by one Hekugha Chophi, a member of NSCN (IM) from Tsutoho village.

In a statement, PAMA President, Akole Vero and General Secretary, Ravelu Khamo described the September 24 incident as a “heinous act” that constitutes a gross violation of human rights and dignity. It stated that such acts represent an “alarming threat to the safety and security of our community, particularly of women and vulnerable individuals.”

PAMA called upon law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the culprit, ensuring that they are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The association further urged the concerned authorities to provide protection, legal support, and counseling to the victim, and to ensure her safety and well-being.

Appealing to the public, PAMA asked people to “stand together in solidarity against gender-based violence and to support initiatives that promote respect, equality, and justice for all.”

“Let this serve as a clear message: any form of sexual violence, threat, or coercion will not be tolerated,” the statement read, adding that the collective voice “must continue to uphold the rights and dignity of every human being.”

The association affirmed that acts of violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society, and that its members stand firmly united in demanding that justice be delivered swiftly and impartially.
