DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary RD, REPA, SIRD & NRLM Nagaland, P. Pangnyu Phom along with 10 Officers of National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), Nagaland is currently on an exposure trip to Kerala State, Trivandrum. NRLM was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India in June 2011. Aided in part through investment support by the World Bank, the Mission aims at creating efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor enabling them to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements and improved access to financial services.
On 13th December 2012, the visiting team from Nagaland was received by Mrs. K. B. Valsala Kumari, IAS the Principle Secretary and Executive Director of Kudumbshree Office, a Government of Kerala undertaking responsible for Poverty Eradication program and NRLM intervention in the State. On arrival at the office and after a felicitation program by the Kerala Government, an Orientation of the ongoing programs was presented through power point by different thematic experts at Kudumbshree.
According to a press note issued by Motsuthung Lotha Mission Director NRLM, Nagaland Kohima, the Parliamentary Secretary was invited for a meeting and a courtesy visit to the State Legislative Assembly, Kerala by the Minister for Panchayat & Social Welfare, Kerala State Dr. M. K. Muneer, who appraised him on the ongoing NRLM programs as implemented by the Kerala Government.
The Minister also gave due credit to other Government line Departments, NGOs and financial institutions like NABARD and other Lead Banks who made every effort for the successful implementation of the program.
The Parliamentary Secretary also thanked and appreciated the Kerala government for extending all possible help to the participating team from Nagaland. He also assured and reposed his confidence on the visiting NRLM Team, Nagaland, headed by the State Mission Director, that the exposure would be a learning experience and improve the quality of NRLM program in Nagaland. The exposure program will conclude with a two day field visit in remote rural Kerala, for firsthand experience to enhance the capacity of the visiting team.
