Patkai Christian College kicks off 49th annual sports week

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 17 (MExN): Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) inaugurated its 49th Annual Sports Week on Monday, bringing together students, faculty, and guests for a celebration of sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.

The event, held at the college ground, began with a prayer by Dr. Vichükho Ngukha, the college chaplain, followed by a welcome speech from Cheimirin Valui, assistant general secretary of the Students’ Union of Patkai Christian College.

Worrin Muivah, founder of Step Academy and the event’s special guest, underscored the role of sports and extracurricular activities in shaping students’ futures. “Eighty percent of senior executives in Fortune 500 companies played sports during college,” Muivah said, citing research. “Sports teach resilience, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities essential for leadership.” He also spoke about the role of faith in personal and professional growth, sharing his own experiences. “When I joined the Young India Fellowship, I felt out of place among students from IITs and prestigious universities. Yet, I believe God honored me because I put Him first,” Muivah said, referencing Matthew 6:33.

As a token of appreciation, Muivah announced a donation to the student association and offered two fully funded scholarships through Step Academy, which provides career training in communication, CV writing, and interview preparation.

Following his speech, Muivah kicked off a football match to mark the official start of the week-long sports festivities. Events on the first day included track events such as 100-, 400-, 800-, and 1,200-meter races, along with relay races and basketball matches.
