The value of experience, learning from every action, and embracing continuous learning were the key takeaways as around 250 students received their Bachelor’s and Postgraduate degrees today at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous).

Held at the college’s Bundrock Chapel Hall Auditorium, hundreds of students, faculty, parents, and well-wishers gathered for the Graduation Ceremony of 2024, a milestone event for the graduating class.

As the commencement speaker, Dr Abemo Odyuo, Registrar of Nagaland University, regaled the gathering with his college days experiences at Patkai from the late 1980s. The Registrar recounted these adventures with a key motive in mind.

“Whatever we do, there should be a point where we learn a lesson,” he advised both the graduating students and the gathering. He noted that while every graduate deserves to celebrate the moment, it also marks a new beginning. “March ahead and set targets for your next achievement,” he urged.

Dr Odyuo called upon each student to develop self-confidence and self-respect, as well as respect for others, particularly elders. Above all, he underscored: “Never cheat on yourself, or you will end up cheating others.”

As an alumnus, the Registrar also noted that he is what he is today because of Patkai and that the college deserved to be conferred university status. “Accept challenges and do not shy away from problems,” he stated as a parting remark, while wishing both the graduates and the college a bright future.

Dr Odyuo’s commendation of his alma mater was further affirmed by Sentila S Pongen, who referred to the college as ‘the Oxford of Nagaland’ in her speech on behalf of the Postgraduate students. She attributed Patkai for making them a ‘better version of ourselves’ and for imparting knowledge and guiding students to face the future.

Representing the undergraduate graduates, Megosieto Vupru urged his fellow travellers to move forward prepared to tackle the harsh realities of life. “Let us move forward with courage and curiosity,” he exhorted.

Earlier, while welcoming the gathering, Dr Thepfuvilie Pieru, the Principal of PCC, credited the graduates' perseverance and dedication for their achievement of this milestone.

During the presentation to the graduates curated by Akangsenla, Assistant Professor of English, Rolio Marao, a Bachelor’s student of Physics, was honoured with the Dr Satuo Sekhose Memorial Academic Excellence Award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with a citation, for CGPA of 9.50.

A total of 17 students also received gold medals and certificates for their stellar academic performance.

Following the presentation of certificates, Angel Sonari, a faculty member of Zoology, gave the charge to the graduating students. The President of the Alumni Association of Patkai Christian College (AAPCC) officially inducted the graduates as members of the Association. The ceremony featured a special musical performance by students from Patkai’s Margaret Shishak School of Music (MSSM). The Patkai Graduation Ceremony of 2024 concluded with a special prayer benediction delivered by Rev Dr Tuisem A Shishak, PCC Principal Emeritus.
