Chümoukedima, August 23 (MExN): Patkai Christian College (PCC) celebrated its 50th Edition Golden Jubilee Freshers’ Social at the Bundrock Chapel Auditorium on August 22, welcoming the new batch of students under the theme “Prologue – Bloom into Being”.

The day-long programme was attended by students, faculty, college authorities, guests, judges, sponsors and members of the Patkai community. The event also marked the institution’s five-decade legacy and its commitment to nurturing young people for meaningful lives and careers.

Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, IPS, was the guest speaker. Drawing from his career and early association with Nagaland, including his first posting in Dimapur, Sharma spoke about the transformative power of education, exposure and interaction.

He encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, interact with people from different communities and backgrounds and remain open to new ideas and perspectives. He also urged students to express their views freely and participate in open dialogue, while calling upon teachers to create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Referring to pressures faced by young people from parental expectations, competition, changing values and societal influences, Sharma encouraged the students to find a healthy balance. He urged them to build meaningful friendships, explore new experiences and strive to become responsible citizens.

Founder Principal Emeritus Dr Rev Shishak led the opening prayer, while Vice Principal Dr Renchumi Kikon Kuotsu delivered the welcome address on behalf of Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Peru.

The programme also featured a presidential address by the President of PCC and member of the SUPCC, highlighting the college’s journey, challenges and perseverance in building the institution and its contribution to producing musicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, officers and professionals. The address also paid tribute to Dr Rev Shishak for his vision and contribution to the college.
