PDA criticises Opposition for ‘making several false allegations’

Kohima, June 7 (MExN): The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) has criticised the statements issued by the Opposition “criticising the government and making several false allegations of late.”

The PDA in a press release issued through its Media Cell said the recent statement that mentions “starvation war” is worrisome as it is an action that is inciting public feelings and actions towards possible disorderly acts and chaos in society.

The Alliance claimed that the State Government despite implementing lockdown had made all possible efforts to ensure that economic activities are not severely hampered. It stated, “While restrictions do cause inconveniences, all possible efforts have been made to ensure that economic activities were not completely shut down.”

PDA claimed that Government has also made arrangements throughout the State to address any issue of distressed people under the aegis of District Task Force (DTF). Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Government had established DTFs in every district and elected members of both the treasury and opposition benches, including representatives of civil societies were incorporated in the DTFs. “Therefore, concerns of any section could have been transparently addressed through the DTFs instead of making unconfirmed allegations though the media,” it said.

Meanwhile, it said PDA deliberately abstained from being drawn into any media confrontation as it is not only undesired during such a time of global crisis but feels that “it is irresponsible to instigate a media war for mere publicity.”

It asserted that financial managements and usage of public funds are all available on the websites of the concerned departments and there are also democratic avenues though platforms like RTI. “While it is the Government’s bounden duty to make its performance and duties transparently known to the people, it is also the responsibility of those questioning to ensure that allegations are substantiated and based on facts.”

PDA conveyed that statements should not be made just for the sake of criticism or for creation of sensationalism, especially at a time like now, when we all need to unite as one to overcome the challenges that we face every hour. “The constructive suggestions and highlighting of the challenges by opposition is well appreciated and the concerned government departments are seriously following up on the matters that have been flagged, however the situation demands that responsible parties and senior leaders should conduct themselves accordingly if they are to gain the respect of the masses,” it added.
