Dimapur, May 25 (MExN): The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) of Nagaland today extended its appreciation to the people of Nagaland and the electorate for reposing its faith on its consensus candidate Tokheho Yepthomi in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections.
It also reiterated that the PDA will not stand in the way and pave way for any alternative arrangement that may arise out of ongoing Indo-Naga political talks.
In a communique issued by Media Cell, PDA stated that the “Election Commission of India, the State Election Department, the government machinery, law enforcing agencies, civil societies, NGOs, church organizations, tribal hohos and all sections of the people deserve to be congratulated for the successful conduct of the most peaceful, free and fair elections.”
The PDA further congratulated the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah for the landslide victory. The PDA further assured of fullest cooperation towards achievement of “collective goals of accelerated development, rapid economic growth under an environment of peace and tolerance by upholding the secular ethos of the country.”
The communique also welcomed the statement of the Prime Minister, wherein he assured that the NDA Government will “protect the interest of the minorities” expressing confidence that the PM’s commitment will be carried out in letter and spirit.
The PDA reiterated its commitment to actively facilitate the ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations and to make all possible efforts towards facilitating an early political solution.
“The PDA has been consistent in its political stand and we have reiterated time and again that the PDA will not stand in the way and pave way for any alternative arrangement that may arise out of the political talks,” it maintained reemphasizing their support of the “legitimate demand of the Naga people for integration of all Naga inhabited areas under a single administrative umbrella as has been unanimously resolved on five occasions by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”
It further appealed to the new dispensation of the forthcoming Central Government to expedite the negotiations, while appreciating the Government of India for recognizing the unique history of the Nagas. It appealed for a political solution that honors the legitimate political rights of the Naga people and ensured the political symbols for which the Naga movement has struggled.
Expressing confidence that the country will achieve greater heights, the PDA assured “cooperation and support” and extended “best wishes to the forthcoming NDA II Central Government.”
