Phek, October 14 (MExN): The Phek District Nagaland Contractors’ and Suppliers’ Union (PDNCSU) today conveyed its strong support to the ultimatum served by the Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation (CCPO) to the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, regarding maintenance of the Pfutsero-Phek 2-lane road.
Specifically, the CCPO’s ultimatum demanded that the DC Phek take action against the KKB Company for what it termed “complete negligence in repairing and maintaining the Pfutsero-Phek 2-lane road via EAC Sakraba Headquarters.”
Meanwhile, noting that the matter had already been brought to the public domain by the CCPO, the PDNCSU demanded that the KKB Company (contractor) immediately restore the required machinery and repair the mentioned damages at the earliest.
“Not attending to the repair and maintenance of the road since its completion by the company signifies its ignorant attitude towards its own profession,” it held.
The union also contended that the concerned administering authority must immediately take necessary action against the KKB Company for its “arrogance in neglecting its duties entirely during the maintenance period of five years.”
It further stated that the KKB Company must be held responsible if any untoward incidents occur in the near future arising from this matter.
The PDNCSU also stated that public life has been severely affected by the poor road conditions, with residents facing particular hardship during emergencies, especially at night when landslides suddenly block the roads.
Thus, it urged immediate action by the concerned authorities and the KKB Company to restore the roads for the community’s welfare.
Urges other road contractors, PWD
The union has requested Shivalaya Company to deploy machinery and workforce 24/7 along landslide-prone sections of the Chakhabama-Zunheboto 2-lane road. Residents face severe difficulties, especially at night, during medical emergencies or while transporting the deceased to their native villages, it said, adding that the stretch between Thenyizumi village and Sidzu River is most affected.
Likewise, the PDNCSU advised the Ratna Company, working on the Kohima-Jessami 2-lane road along the stretch of Chakhabama and Kikrüma, to complete the construction works at the earliest.
Further, it “sternly” informed all implementing companies/firms in the district to maintain quality workmanship in all their works and use quality raw materials as per the specifications.
The PDNCSU also called upon the concerned Department of PWD (R&B) of the district to carry out maintenance work on all the roads under their establishment, as most of the roads are in a deplorable condition following the heavy monsoon rains.
