DIMAPUR, AUGUST 22 (MExN): In a significant step toward collaborative peacebuilding and youth empowerment, Peace Channel hosted a strategic meeting with representatives from the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) on August 21 at the Peace Centre, Chümoukedima.
The meeting marked the beginning of a promising partnership between the two organisations, both committed to building a peaceful, inclusive, and empowered society, a press release issued by Peace Channel Desk stated.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Dr Fr CP Anto, Principal of NEISSR and Director of Peace Channel, who quoted the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, walk alone. But if you want to go far, walk together,” setting a collaborative tone.
He extended gratitude to YMCA leaders Sanjeev Momin, General Secretary, YMCA Nagaland, and Shamir J Thabah, Regional Secretary, YMCA North East Region. Dr Anto highlighted the shared mission of both organisations in fostering peace, promoting secular values, and empowering youth and communities, emphasizing that the partnership could create impactful synergies to nurture a just and compassionate society.
Shamir J Thabah addressed the Peace Channel team, providing insights into YMCA’s rich legacy and focus on spiritual, physical and mental development. He highlighted YMCA’s 181 years of global service and described the meeting as a “spark of change” and a stepping stone toward collective social transformation.
Sanjeev Momin shared his personal journey within YMCA and the diverse opportunities it offers youth across various sectors, emphasizing its global presence and role in equipping young individuals for personal and professional growth.
Barnic, Assistant Professor at NEISSR, introduced Peace Knit Fest, a flagship initiative by Peace Channel, proposing it as the first potential collaborative programme between the organisations to bring together youth from diverse backgrounds to celebrate unity, peace, and diversity.
James Phanungkiu, Project Coordinator, and Saziini Chache, Researcher at Peace Channel, shared their perspectives, echoing the potential of the partnership in elevating both organisations and fostering impactful community-driven programmes.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Jose V A, Trainer at Peace Channel, who, on behalf of Dr Fr CP Anto and the Peace Channel team, expressed gratitude to YMCA representatives for their presence and openness to collaboration, conveying best wishes for the successful realisation of the joint vision.
