DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (MExN): Provident intervention restored the near civil war conflict between Thevopisu and Ruzazho villages of Chozuba sub-division to normalcy today after violence erupted between the two villages on Saturday because of a land dispute.
As soon as they received information about the fighting, district administration and police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. They spend sleepless nights to bring back peace between the two villages, and succeeded only this evening after the two villages agreed to sign a peace bond in the presence of the district officials.
Source said that even before the fighting started on Saturday, both the villages were secretly plotting attack on one another. As result of which they took the law into their own hand and resorted to violence on Saturday without even seeking the help of either the district administration or the police. What followed was heavy gun battle, burning down of thatch houses, and in the process six innocent persons were injured.
The two villages tried to hide reports of burning down of house and the injuries.
However, the district administration rushed to the area and took stock of the situation. “There was heavy gun fighting and the situation nearly flared up to a near civil war”, said one official, adding that there was constraint to invoke even prohibitory order in the area.
Credit goes not only to the entire team of district administration of Phek district for bringing back normalcy, but also to the neighbouring villagers, churches and public leaders of the area who put all efforts to contain the situation, an official said.
“Now the situation is under control. We have deployed sufficient police force in the area”, said one official.
