Peren district joins ‘last war against leprosy’

Peren, February 17 (MExN): Anti Leprosy Day and Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2021 was observed and conducted in Peren district under the theme “Kusht Ke Viruddh, Akhri Yudu” (last war against leprosy). 

A short programme was conducted at the Peren Deputy Commissioner’s office chamber on January 30. DC Peren Sentiwapang Aier encouraged the health workers to disseminate awareness on leprosy and to eliminate leprosy from the district and state as well. 

DY CMO, Dr Lanuakum highlighted the causes, clinical features and treatment of leprosy. He emphasis that the treatment is available free of cost and leprosy is completely curable in 6 to 12 months. 

At the end of the programme, pledge on leprosy awareness campaign was read by all the members.

Following the observation of Anti-Leprosy day, Anti Leprosy forth night was observed in two village i.e. Tesen village and Jalukiekam village). With the history of presence of leprosy cases in the past this villages were selected and thus awareness campaign was conducted, Pezanguno Celine Secü, District Media Officer CMO Office Peren stated in a press release. 

 Awareness on leprosy was conducted during the monthly district review meeting on February 5 where Medical Officers, Nurses and medical staffs were present. IEC/poster campaigns were conducted across the district.
