Peren, September 7 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Peren, convened at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, Peren on September 7, underscored the need for collective action to drive development, while approving several key proposals including venue changes for major events and registration of a local brotherhood club.
Chairman of the DPDB and local MLA, Namri Nchang, presided over the session, emphasizing that “collective efforts were essential to bring about significant development in the district.” He urged officers to remain “active, sincere and committed to public service” and to work together in addressing people-centric issues, stated a DIPR report.
DC Peren, Hiazu Meru, who serves as Vice Chairman of the DPDB, welcomed the members and special invitees from the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Peren Branch, and the Chairman of Samziuram Village Council. He also appreciated departmental participation in the 80th Independence Day celebrations and commended the exhibition stalls that drew praise from the Deputy Chief Minister.
In a significant move under the DPDB’s village adoption initiative, aimed at streamlining Village Development Boards (VDBs) and Village Councils, the Chairman of Samziuram Village Council shared his positive experience from a recent Administrative Training Institute (ATI) programme in Kohima, thanking the board for selecting his village.
Reviewing past meeting minutes, the DC appreciated the monthly mass social work participation but noted that staff turnout remained “comparatively low,” urging officers to encourage greater involvement. He also directed department heads to closely monitor ongoing construction of offices and quarters at the District Headquarters to ensure quality and avoid future complications.
The house approved shifting the venue for the Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026 from Peren Headquarters to Jalukie Town, citing the lack of a suitable arena. The tournament is now scheduled for the first week of October, with the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Jalukie as the main venue.
Discussions on the Mini Hornbill Festival revealed a date change, from December to October 29–31, as proposed by the Tribal Hoho-NZPO. The DC called upon all departments, especially Agriculture and Allied sectors, to set up exhibition stalls. NZPO President Zandi Domta briefed the house on arrangements and appealed to the Chairman and departments for cooperation.
For the 2nd Edition of the King Chilli Festival at New Puilwa Village, the DC sought support from Horticulture, Agriculture, NSRLM, and Industries & Commerce, with officials from these departments assuring full intervention for its success.
The board also approved the registration of the Benreu Brotherhood Club after EAC Ngwalwa verified that it met all prescribed criteria.
Later, presentations were delivered by representatives from IRCS, Urban Development, Education, and Economics & Statistics departments, highlighting their achievements and ongoing activities. The Department of Youth Resources & Sports and Forest Department have been tasked with presenting at the next meeting.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from the chair.
