Peren: ZYON urges on Govt officials to uphold duties; cautions of consequences

Peren, July 17 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) has expressed resentment over what it termed as “complaints and witnesses against erring officials and teachers for neglecting their duties and responsibilities as government-appointed officials.”

In any functioning society, it is imperative that government officials uphold their duty to serve the public interest, it reminded.
The ZYON stated that neglect of duty is one of the most “egregious offences” any official could commit and cautioned that the matters would not be overlooked.

It also pointed out that some officials are not present at the office and despite repeated requests from various civil society organisations in the past, they ‘utterly disregard’ the appeals.

Many government school teachers have also appointed proxy replacements with mutual understanding between some village leaders and town leaders, it maintained. This is a serious concern for the future of the students left in the hands of under-qualified proxy teachers and such bargaining with their lives will never be considered, it added.

Accordingly, the ZYON asserted that, at an appropriate time, stringent action shall be taken against such erring officials as per the procedure, it asserted. The organisation further stated that the locals who are “hand in gloves” in such matters would also be booked and befitting punishment would be given as per law.

The ZYON also informed that it had taken a decision to conduct surprise checks for the wellbeing of the society.

“Our silence and patience should not be misconstrued as weakness and the ZYON hopes that this letter is taken seriously as an appeal and final warning,” it added.
