Longleng, June 6 (MExN): To observe Phom Day, leaders gathered at Phom Day pledge declaration site in Longleng town with M Shami Angh President, Phom People's Council (PPC) as special guest on June 6.
In his message, Shami said, “today we celebrate Phom Day because of our forefathers who made a wise decision to stop headhunting and choose peace for growth and development. If they had no such personality or thought of peace, then we would not have seen the world today.”
“Without peace we would not have been able to do anything,” he added. Shami calso alled upon the young educated Phom intellectuals to come forward with dedicated and loving heart to lead the Phom society towards change and progress.
He also extended Phom Day greetings to all Phom community living across the world and appealed to safe humanity by standing together with a responsibility to face the global challenge with optimism.
“On the occasion, the PPC salute and stand together in prayers with all the health workers, frontline workers and people who are tirelessly shouldering the path breaking responsibility in the state,” he added.
Phom Day which is an annual event was born on June 6, 1952 under the leadership of Lt Hamnyei and Lt Yongtau and other Phom leaders from different villages. “On this day, they took the pledge to stop headhunting killing and attacking rival villages. This day marks the ending of head hunting era and beginning of new dawn in Phom Land,” a DIPR report stated.
