Players at NFR pen remarkable performance

Maligaon, April 11 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has a talented cluster of International & National players who had represented the country in Olympics, World Championship, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian Championship, Asia Cup, etc., in various sports events.

During the year 2023, players like Swapna Barman bagged Silver Medal in Heptathlon at Asian Athletics Championship held at Bangkok, L Ronaldo Singh won Silver Medal in Cycling at Asian Track Cycling Championship held in Malaysia, Manjeet Kumar won silver medal in track team cycling event at Asia Cup held in Thailand, Amlan Borgohain got Bronze in 200 Meter Race in World University Games held at China and lastly Bindiyarani Devi clinched Gold Medal in 55 kg category at IWLF Sr Women National Weightlifting Championship held at Arunachal Pradesh as well as Silver medal at Asian Weightlifting Championship held at Korea. Recently she also added a Bronze Medal in 55 kg category in IWF World Cup held at Phuket, Thailand from March 28 till April 11. 

There are 12 Sports Academies under NFRSA to promote sporting events with the aim to deliver more sportsperson of international standards. Sport events like Athletics, Archery, Aquatics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Martial arts, Wushu & Kung-Fu for self defence, Table Tennis & Volleyball are promoted and facilitated under the guidance of 47 coaches training approximately 2000 of potential future athletes. 

The Cricket stadium infrastructure is being redeveloped and will soon have five newly laid centre wickets and proper flood lights is underway. Also, the construction of a cricket Indoor Hall with two Astro turf wickets with proper lighting is in progress. Facilities like two Basketball court, multipurpose AC Indoor Hall with 1800 sitting capacity, Badminton hall with four court, Table tennis hall with six Boards, Football Stadium with dressing rooms, Boxing rings with international facilities, swimming pool, Weightlifting & Power lifting rooms, Archery arena, two Volley ball court, Gymnasium hall, Golf Course with nine holes at Amingaon, three synthetic court and one Indoor court and Sports hostel & Physiotherapy room have been upgraded. “These facilities are also open to the general public for sports coaching,” Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR stated in a press release.
