Dimapur, November 24 (MExN): Clarifying the alleged anomalies pointed out by failed candidates and the DNSU in the recruitment of Havildars and ABSIs in the 14th NAP (IR) Battalion conducted recently, particularly the appearance of some candidates’ chest numbers the Police Department asserted that the two candidates Chest No 394 and 470 were ‘selected on backward quota.’
The chairman of the Recruitment Board, CP Giri IPS, in a press statement, reiterated that there was an inadvertent typing error in writing the Chest Nos 239 and 498 (which has been clarified earlier on November 23 by the department). However, regarding the two other candidates bearing Chest Numbers 394 and 470, Giri said that after the board finalized written result and send to the press for publication, “while writing down names of candidates preparing for Viva-voce test, it was realised that there was no candidates available from Chang and Konyak tribes”.
Giri said that when the written test list was checked, two Konyaks and one Chang were found to have appeared the test, but their marks were somehow lesser than the cut-off mark. He said that since the backward tribe quota has to be filled up, the candidates having the highest mark were called for the oral interview. “Since the written result was already released in the press and viva-voce test commenced the next day, the Chang and Konyak candidates were informed to appear the viva-voce test. They appeared and were selected. So their chest numbers figured in the final list.” The release informed.
Also clarifying the increase in the number of posts as pointed out by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Giri said that the PHQ had submitted a proposal to the government to raise direct recruitment quota to 75 percent instead of 50 percent. The PHQ intimated that the Government had approved, so the vacancies increased the post of ABSI to 16 instead of 11 and 63 posts of Havildars from the earlier 41 posts, informed Giri.
