Dimapur, November 15 (MExN): ‘Footprints,’ a book about ‘life and living’ authored by Pongom Lam was released by Noklak Deputy Commissioner Haizu Meru on November 13.
According to a press release, "the themes of the poems are simple and universal in appeal and every piece in the book is an ode to the heart and an attempt to inspire and awaken the artist in you.” A number of poems are written to expose the beauty of nature and the poet uses this book to dish out motivational and didactic poems, it added.
On the occasion, Meru stated that Naga history is based on oral tradition which has been passed down from generation to generation. However, in the current generation, he said the need for written record has become even more relevant.
While appreciating the author, the DC encouraged him to use the talent and the creativity for the benefit of all and wished him success in life. He expressed appreciation to the author for taking a bold step in the field of writing, stating that it was very encouraging particularly in a time when the world is flooded with technology. DC Meru also urged the gathering to pick up the habit of reading and to be ready to learn new things in life.
Pongom Lam holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts (History Honours) from St Joseph’s College, Jakhama and a Master’s Degree from IGNOU. He is best known for short poems and his area of interest includes nature, humanity, modern form of poetry etc. He has also published, ‘The Hardship of Life’ in 2017, followed by 'Being on Time' in 2018 and received awards such as ‘Poem of the year 2019’ by North East Featured Poetry Award: Vocal for Local and ‘Poem of the Year’ in the Elegy and Sonnet categories in 2021.
