Nagaland’s Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Advisor Zhaleo Rio graced the inaugural session of the 47th General Session 2020 of Porbami Youth Organization (PYO) at Porba village under Phek district on December 11.

Addressing the gathering, Zhaleo stressed on the need to pay special attention towards overall development of games and sports in the state. To excel in the field of sports, one has to start from the young age and undergo the requisite trainings, he said. In the competition arena of the sports activities, he said, the role of parents and elders is also crucial to boost the morale of the youth. Their presence as spectator will be the source of encouragement to the budding sportspersons, he maintained.

Also stressing on the need to do away with the attitude of casualness, he called upon the youth to come forward and be a key player of the competitive world. He was all praise the Porba village for producing two Nagaland wrestling champions earlier in the persons of Huvesu Puro and Vecuhu Theluo. 

Meanwhile, he told the villagers to take preventive measure against COVID-19 pandemic. He asked the villagers to follow SOPs and at the same time to maintain social distancing norms, use face mask and frequent hand wash. Later, as pleaded by PYO for black topping of Porba village approach road, Rio assured to take up the matter with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the concerned authority.

Miathou Krose, Chairman, Nagaland Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited, Orenpomo Kikon, secretary sericulture Nagaland and several other dignitaries also present at the inaugural function.

The inaugural function was chaired by Vetho Vadeo while PYO president Veduta Dzudo delivered welcome address. PYO Games & Sports Secretary, Khotso Puro administered oath to the participating teams while Porba village head GB Veswuvo Chuzho pronounced traditional blessings. Vote of thanks was proposed by Huvesu Puro. The meet will go on till December 12 with Porba village council chairman Kuzuveyi Dzudo as the closing guest. The two day sports meet is being marked by athletics, football, volleyball and basketball.
