Power Deptt conducts raids in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Oct 18 (MExN): The Superintending Engineer Electrical Circle Mokokchung, Er. Imli Ao today issued a press release about the power interruption in Villages and Towns. In Mokokchung Town, joint raids on power theft were conducted recently by the department with the help of the Ward authorities, where 512 unauthorized consumers have been detected. This has been a great achievement, which was made possible only with the co-operation of the public. The department is grateful to all the Ward Authorities of Mokokchung Town for extending their valuable assistance, and requested their continued co-operation in the future too.

Theft of electricity is an offence under section 135 of The Electricity Act 2003, with a punishment of imprisonment up to 3 years, or a fine up to Rs.10,000/-, or both. However, all the detected defaulters have been offered an opportunity for taking regular connection at nominal charges within 20 October 2005, failing which they are liable to be booked under the above mentioned Act. Due to power theft, the transformers frequently burn down in Towns in Villages, resulting in prolonged power interruption/ failure. It also added that, it is also costing the Government a substantial amount to pay for the electricity. Unless the public extend their co-operation, it will not be possible for the department alone to check and control the theft of power. The release further requested the public to help the department to serve better.
