Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): Pranab College, Dimapur, organised an HIV and AIDS awareness programme and blood donation camp on September 25 as part of the Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0.
The programme was organised by the Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Pranab College in collaboration with the Blood Centre, District Hospital Dimapur, and DISHA.
The programme was chaired by Atoholi H, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
I Imkongakum Ao, Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club, Pranab College, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of blood donation, encouraging young people to contribute to the health and well-being of society.
Kholie Dolf, former president, Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland, and Managing Committee Member, Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, delivered a session on "Why Donate Blood".
He spoke about the importance of voluntary blood donation and how a single act of donating blood could help save lives.
Dr Rongsenmar Longkumer of the Blood Centre, District Hospital Dimapur, spoke about the importance of blood centres and the availability of blood for patients in need.
He also introduced the e-RaktKosh online portal, which can be used to check the availability of different blood groups.
The programme also featured an HIV and AIDS awareness session as part of the Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0, conducted by Pauramzeule, Manager-cum-Counsellor, SSK, District Hospital Dimapur.
She delivered an awareness talk on HIV/AIDS, explaining its causes, symptoms and stages, and highlighting the major modes of HIV transmission. She also emphasised the importance of prevention and proper treatment.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ulla Laureen Fernsmdez, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, Pranab College.
A blood donation camp was subsequently held, during which 22 students voluntarily donated blood. The organisers said the event highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, community service and efforts to save lives.
