‘Present financial status of Nagaland in bleak situation”

State records 1.20 lakh government employees

Addressing the 27th Biennial Meet of Kohima Village Gazetted Officers Association (KVGOA), Secretary Finance & PWD to Government of Nagaland, Kesonyü Yhome, highlighted the present financial status of the state, which he said, “is in a bleak situation.”

Yhome said that Nagaland has a salary-driven economy and money circulation within the state is entirely through salary. He regretted that there is no worth naming existence of large scale industry in the state to generate revenue.

He informed that there are 1.20 lakh government employees in Nagaland, which stands the highest number in the country in term of employment-to-population ratio.

Stating that job avenue in the government sector has reached a saturation point, Yhome urged upon KVGOA to identify the unemployed youth and connect them to skill development programme. He called up the members of KVGOA to plan for exposure trip to ENPO areas including other districts to familiarize themselves with the living conditions of other community and assist them in whatever possible means.

He stressed on the need to set aside some seed money to support the civil service aspirants. 

Stating that water supply and traffic congestion has pose a big challenge to Kohima denizens, Yhome called upon KVGOA to form a Committee on water supply and traffic management to assist the concerned authority/agency. He felt that the formation of Committee for documentation of farming system and handloom and handicraft will immensely benefit the younger generation.

Further, he stressed on the need to adopt some schools and health care centre and at the same time to revive the concept of Morung to motivate the youngsters in various fields.

Speaking on the occasion held at Duolhou Garden, Kruoliezou, L Khel, Kohima village on February 23, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Advisor Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Nagaland urged upon the KVGOA to be practical in whatever way they intent to do for the society. “Let us help others instead of waiting others to help us,” he said. 

He called upon the members to meet often, adding that frequent interaction will generate better understanding on various issues and challenges. Further, he challenged the KVGOA to come out with a comprehensive action plan for the interest and betterment of the society.

KVGOA new team announced
The new team of KVGOA office bearers for the tenure 2022-25 was announced with Medozhalie Pienyii as president, Kethosituo Sekhose as Vice President, Er Ketouvizo Tseikha as General Secretary and Ruokuosazo Sachii as Treasurer.

Earlier, KVGOA president Dr Vizolie Suokhrie delivered presidential address, KVGOA General Secretary Peter Phewhuo and KVGOA treasurer Neivotuo Keyho presented their respective reports and the programme was chaired by KVGOA Vice President Er Zakielatuo Yiese.

The meet was hosted by Lhisemia Gazetted Officers Association.

The KVGOA has 405 members at present.
