Kohima, July 5 (DIPR): The two-day State level workshop on the theme ‘Present Trends and Future scope of Research in Nagaland’ organised by Nagaland University Research Scholars’ Forum, Kohima (NURSF-K) in collaboration with SCERT, Kohima was inaugurated by Governor of Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar on July 5 at the NIELIT Auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, the main objective of the workshop is to update and acquaint knowledge in research mythology and added that it is research that can bring solution to the problem faced by the people through new discovery which leads us to the conclusion with new decision and solution in building humanity. Citing the example of Indian Government which was ignored by the World Community for Nuclear Testing in 1974, he said that it is through the hard efforts of the researcher that India has achieved so much by becoming super power and has the prestige, a path taking which needs appreciation by the Nation. He therefore called upon the young researchers to study not only for the degree for securing a good job but to achieve something which will really benefit the society as a whole. He also mentioned that the practice of ‘Jhum’ cultivation in the State is one of the main problems which leads to the destruction of the forest and natural resources and appealed the young Naga scientist and researchers to study on how to bring and what will be the substitute to save the destruction caused by ‘Jhum’ Cultivation. Stating that 70% of Naga population are farmers but still are not self sufficient, the Governor said that it is the responsibility of the young researchers and scientist to bring solution to the people which will make a big impact in our economy.
The programme was chaired by Ex-President, NURSF-K, Dr. Kevizuo Kuolie while invocation was pronounced by President, NU Evangelical Union and welcome address was delivered by Chairman, NURSF-K, Kezhasilie Chiezou. The keynote address was delivered by Guest of Honour, Vice-Chancellor NU, B.K. Konwar and short speech was also given by Director SCERT Nagaland, Vipralhou Kesiezie. A special number was presented by Shenieta Churhah, IVth Semester, Department of Education and vote of thanks was proposed by Organising Treasurer, Ranjit Nayak.
It may be mentioned that the two day workshop on the theme ‘Present Treads and Future Scope of Research in Nagaland’ is an effort of the Nagaland Research Scholars’ Forum, Kohima (NURSF-K) to comprehend and encourage the various academic research activities in Nagaland.
The main objective of the workshop is to update and acquaint knowledge in research methodology for both present and upcoming researchers and also to serve as a means of solution to the problems of research activities in Nagaland. The workshop also focuses to provide a platform to bring in together the research scholars’ community in Nagaland. Over the last two decades, academic research pursuits in Nagaland has been progressing substantially, and still there is lot of scope for exploring new areas in the field of research. Keeping this in mind, the workshop will highlight the status of higher education, particularly research activities in various fields in Nagaland. The workshop aims to guide the present scholars’ in conducting qualitative and productive research and also enable the other participants to understand the existing status of research in Nagaland. Addition to that, it will be informative for those research aspirants, whatever may be their disciplines.
Nagaland University is a central University established way back in 6th September 1994 with six schools- Humanities & Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, Agriculture & Rural Development, Engineering & Technology and Management. The University has 25 Departments spread over four campuses viz. Lumami (H.Q), Kohima, Medziphema and Dimapur. The Nagaland ‘University Research Scholars’ Forum, Kohima was formed on 10th April 2009 with the sole Objective to let the research community of Nagaland University to come together in one common platform to share; educate and debate. At present there are about 120 registered research scholars in Kohima Campus in the Department of English, Education, History & Archaeology, Tenyidie, Commerce, Geology and Women’s Studies Centre, the sources added.
